Dependents of Boilermaker members are eligible for scholarships of up to $5,000. Each year, the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers gives a total of $100,000 worth of scholarships to dependents of members, both in Canada and in the U.S.
Scholarship awards are based upon a variety of factors, including academic achievement, extra-curricular and outside school activities, career goals, and performance on a typed essay.
Boilermaker scholarships are open to high school seniors who will be entering their first year of academic study at a degree-granting, accredited college or university within one year of their high school graduation and are dependents of Boilermaker members in good standing (includes son, daughter, legally adopted child or dependent of a member in good standing).
Scholarship candidates must submit all of the following:

- Official high school transcript
- A 350 word (minimum) to 500 word (maximum) typed essay on a chosen topic

Cape Breton Island Building & Construction Trades Council Membership Bursary
There will be 6 Bursaries awarded. Each is valued at $500. All applications for the Cape Breton Building Trades Bursary must be sent the the NS Union Hall. It can be e-mailed to by clicking HERE.

The Scholarship is to be provided to the selected applicant upon his or her acceptance by an accredited College, University or Community College.
All winning applicants must provide proof of acceptance.
The Bursary, in the amount provided will be available to a son or daughter or dependant of a member in good standing of the Boilermakers Local #73 Construction List.
Each Bursary provided shall be in the amount of one thousand ($1,000.00) dollars. There shall be three (3) Bursaries each from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick – based on a draw.
