IBB 73 & BCA Ratification Results
June 18th, 2021
Brothers & Sisters
Today the ratification election concluded at 12:00 PM noon. We are happy to announce that the ratification was successful at 75.7%. There were 487 eligible electors, voter turnout was 48.3% Percent.
We would like to thank all who took part in the online membership meetings and the election.
Moving forward this agreement will be in effect the first Sunday of July, 2021 in New Brunswick.
Unfortunately, in Nova Scotia the BCA have indicated that because the NSCLRA are unwilling to ratify the deal that was offered to our membership we are still without a CBA for Nova Scotia & PEI.
We have meetings next week to discuss a path forward. When we have a clear direction and know what our next steps are, we will inform all of Local 73. We will most likely enter conciliation with the NSCLRA & BCA and see what grounds we have legally. We are unhappy with the BCA, they have offered us a deal that our contractors have approved and pulled out from under our feet. In our 48-year history this is a first for our Local and we are entering uncharted territory. The Actions of the BCA & NSCLRA will not be taken lightly. We entered bargaining in good faith, and were committed to come to a fair agreement for our membership.
We remain diligent and will work to a solution to this situation as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience & understanding.
Fraternally yours,
The Bargaining Team

Important Update Affecting
NS Power Outages
Updated April 23rd, 2021
Due to recent surge in Covid-19 in the province of Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia Power Outages are all tentative at the current time. The outage scheduled to start on the 26th of May on unit 1 in Lingan canceled. Many members were laid off unexpectedly yesterday. There were scheduled to be 36 Boilermakers on the unit 1 outage. Currently 5 members remain on site with API Canada & 2 with Hammon for work on the stack.
All future outages at NS Power are tentative at this time, the most recent rumor sheet for Nova Scotia will be updated early next week if more information is known. Through preliminary discussions with the Contractor, we may see a strategy similar to last year with low numbers of Boilermakers on site for longer durations. Currently there are a number of units offline. Pt Aconi is off because of the increase of fuel cost. We may see an unexpected outage there with a small crew in the next week or two for a longer time frame than usual.
This news is devastating considering the progress Local 73 has made since last years Covid-19 surge. Local 73 & API were extremely optimistic and had a busy year planed. Our members have shown the owner community and our contractors, our commitment regarding Covid-19 protocols. This has allowed us to have large numbers of employees on a site. Please remain diligent and take the restrictions seriously. The Covid-19 outbreaks have affected our work opportunities here in the Maritimes more drastically then in other parts of the country.
We will do our absolute best to keep you all informed.
Thank you for your patience.
